Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goal sends Men's Soccer past Hastings

With an absolute laser blasted off his left foot, Adem Aroua turned what looked to be a certain tie into a thrilling Ravens Men's Soccer win.

The Ravens topped the Hastings College Broncos 3-2 thanks to Aroua's goal with 3 seconds left on the clock.

The Ravens let a 2-0 halftime lead slip away earlier in the second half, but they did well not to hang their heads. As the seconds ticked away late in the half, Aroua found himself with the ball at his feet and the final countdown ringing in his ears. Knowing it was now or never, the midfielder unleashed a bomb from 30 yards out into the top left corner to ignite the Ravens celebration.

It didn't appear the Ravens would need the late-game heroics after a strong first half. The Broncos nearly scored 10 minutes into the match after earning a penalty kick. However, Noah Reuscher dove to his left and blocked the attempt to keep Hastings off the scoreboard. Reuscher made 8 saves in the match.

The Ravens pushed back after the save to earn five-consecutive corner kicks. On the fifth attempt, the Ravens grabbed the lead when Jesus Rodriguez headed home the corner from Diego Acuna.

Minutes later the Ravens earned a PK when Kajubi Kalanzi was taken down inside the box. Acuna stepped to the spot and buried the try to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead with just under 30 minutes to play before half.

The Ravens nearly made it 3-0 moments later but the Hastings keeper made great saves on shots by Aroua and Eliah Froeyland. Instead, the Ravens continued into the halftime break with a 2-goal advantage.

Hastings cut the Ravens lead in half with about 30 minutes left to play in the match. Earning their second PK of the match, the Broncos finally beat Reuscher for a goal.

The match was leveled with 16:43 to play when Heitor Olivera made some nifty moves in the box to beat the Ravens defenders and keeper to make it 2-2. It looked like that would be the final score before Aroua's magnificent goal late in the match.

The Ravens (2-2-1) remain home for their next three matches, starting with a 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 match against Briar Cliff.
