BALDWIN CITY – Baker held off a second-half comeback effort from Men's Basketball on Thursday night as the Wildcats earned their second straight win over the Ravens.
Benedictine shot 72.8 percent from the floor in the second half only after Baker shot 77.8 percent in the first half as they were able to hold off the second-half run by the Ravens and earn the 95-86 win.
Baker opened the game on a 12-2 run that put Benedictine behind by double figures inside the first four minutes of the game. They went on to score 42 more points as they held a 24-point lead over the Ravens at the half.
The Wildcats connected on 21 of 27 from the floor and 8 of 12 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half while the Ravens finished at 10 of 29 from the floor and 4 of 13 beyond the 3-point arc.
In the second half, the Wildcats cooled off while the Ravens hit their stride offensively.
Baker's largest lead of the game was 25 points, which they held for the final time with 17:24 left in the game. Benedictine used multiple runs to erase that deficit and with just over a minute remaining in the game, they trailed 89-81.
The Ravens were able to hold the Wildcats scoreless from the field over the final last 3:09 of the game while hitting 5 of their last 7 shots but couldn't pull any closer than 7 as the Wildcats were able to seal the game from the free throw line.
Five Ravens finished in double figures. Joel Adese helped spark the Ravens offensive run in the second half and he and Preston Reynolds finished with 10 and 11 points respectively off the bench.
Jayden Temme led the Ravens with 17, Ahmad Louis scored 16 points and Sam Ungashick added 13.
Benedictine shot 72.4 percent from the floor in the second half while hitting 7 of 12 from beyond the arc. They held Baker to just 37.0 percent from the floor and 3 of 11 from beyond the arc. The Ravens finished the game perfect at the charity stripe, knocking 13 of 13 free throws while the Wildcats went 22 of 25.
The Ravens return home on Saturday, hosting Park University at 2 p.m. as they continue the second half of Heart play. Benedictine earned a 64-63 win over the Pirates back on Dec. 14
