An early second half run wasn't enough for Men's Basketball at home on Saturday.
The Ravens lost to the MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers, 69-60.
Trailing 24-18 at halftime, the Ravens woke up early in the second half. An 11-0 run gave the Ravens a 29-24 lead. However, the Pioneers answered and forced a Ravens timeout after moving in front 39-36 with just over 12 minutes to play.
The Ravens were unable to get back in front of the visitors as MNU answered any Ravens momentum with made shots of their own. The Pioneers also sank free throws down the stretch to help close out their 9-point win.
The Ravens were able to hold MNU 13 points below its season scoring average, including holding Anthony Brown scoreless – the returning NAIA All American entered the game averaging 19 points per game.
The Ravens struggled to get things going offensively to begin the game and by the mid-point of the first half, the Pioneers held a 20-7 lead. The Ravens were just 1-of-12 from the field in the opening 10 minutes.
The Ravens continued to battle the rest of the first half, outscoring the MNU 11-4 down the stretch to go into halftime down 24-18. They finished the first half shooting 17.9% from the floor, and were held without a 3-pointer.
Their 11-0 run to open the second half was the best offensive stretch of the night for the Ravens, but MNU's answer was too much to overcome.
Temme and Sam Ungashick tied for the team-high with 17 points each. The Ravens shot 31% from the floor in the game and were 20-0f-25 from the free throw line.
Tyson Cathy grabbed 10 boards as the Ravens outrebounded MNU 40-37.
The Ravens (11-11 overall, 9-7 Heart) won't get a break in the schedule as they travel to No. 19 Evangel University on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
