Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball improves winning streak to four games

Men's Basketball kept their winning streak intact on Wednesday night.

The Ravens defeated the Central Methodist University Eagles 75-64 in a hard-fought win.

After taking a 5-point lead into halftime, the Ravens held off the Eagles as the first 10 minutes of the second half were full of energy on the defensive end, especially from Tyson Cathy. The senior came up with a big block to help set up a fast break for the Ravens and then added a steal in the post.

A basket by the Eagles with 7 minutes to play cut the Ravens lead to 5 points, but the Ravens closed out the game with solid defense and good shooting from the free throw line. The Ravens knocked down 13 free throws in the final 3 minutes to salt away their 11-point win.

The Eagles started the game off hot, knocking down 5-of-9 3-pointers in the first 7 minutes to take a 17-8 lead. CMU entered the contest shooting 34% from 3-point range on the season and finished just above that mark at 35% Wednesday night.

The Ravens hit 4 of their first 8 attempts from deep, but the Eagles maintained a 20-14 lead at the media timeout with 9:10 to play in the first half. Braden Belt then hit back-to-back treys to tie the score, and Sam Ungashick knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Ravens in front 23-20 with 7 minutes to play before half.

The Ravens took a 40-35 lead into halftime, thanks in large part to Belt's hot shooting. The junior guard made 6-of-7 from deep in the first half for 18 points; even his miss was a positive for the Ravens as Anthony Hall was there for the offensive rebound and put-back.

The Ravens closed out the night converting 50% of their shots from deep, plus they outrebounded the Eagles 40-32.

Belt's 24 points were a game high, and his 8 made 3-pointers tie Matt Westerhaus for third most in Ravens history. Westerhaus also has the all-time mark at 11. Ungashick finished with 19, Ahmad Louis added 14 and Cathy had 9 points to go with 13 rebounds.

The Ravens (7-7, 5-3 Heart) are winners of four-straight and will remain home when they take on Grand View University Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m.
