Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball overcomes run by Grand View to push winning streak to five

Men's Basketball ran their winning streak to 5 with their second win of 2023 on Saturday against Grand View.

The Vikings erased a 15-point deficit over a 5-minute stretch of the second half to push the Ravens down the stretch before Benedictine earned the 84-80 win.

After Sam Ungashick scored 2 of his game-high 30 points with 13 minutes remaining in the second half, the Ravens went cold on offense. Grand View capitalized with their offensive run that pulled the game even with 8 minutes remaining. A 3-pointer from Grand View's Andrew Nusbaum gave the Vikings a 1-point lead with just over 6 minutes left in the game, but that basket was two baskets from Ungaschick to give the Ravens back the lead.

Benedictine remained in front the rest of the way en route to the four-point win.

The Ravens jumped out quickly from tipoff. Jayden Temme opened the game with 8 straight points for Benedictine, pushing the Ravens ahead 8-2. Anthony Hall gave the Ravens their first double-digit lead of the game at 16-6 before another Temme 3-pointer pushed Benedictine ahead 24-12 for their largest lead of the first half.

By halftime, the Ravens lead was 40-31 as they finished the half at 51.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc with 6 first-half 3-pointers.

After Cathy scored the first basket of the second half for the Ravens, Ungaschick and Braden Belt combined for an 11-0 run that pushed Benedictine's lead to 17 points before the Vikings started their run to make the game closer down the stretch.

The 30-points for Ungaschick set a new career-high as he finished with 12 field goals shooting 4 of 4 from beyond the arc. The Ravens finished with four players in double figures as Belt finished with 16, Temme finished with 12 while Joel Adese added 10 points off the bench.

Benedictine wraps up its three-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting No. 20 Evangel University at 7:30 p.m.
