(14) Football wins battle of NAIA-ranked opponents over (21) Baker 30-6

BALDWIN CITY – No. 14 Benedictine Football held No. 21 Baker University to its lowest passing total of the season on Saturday en route to a 24-point Heart South road win.

The Ravens forced back-to-back fumbles on consecutive kickoffs to set up a touchdown and field goal inside the first three minutes of play as they earned a 30-6 win over the Wildcats. 

Jackson Dooley scored on a 1-yard rush for the first score of the game that started at the Baker 13. Harry Balke connected on a 28-yard field goal for the Ravens second score that started on the 15-yard line and put Benedictine in the lead, 10-0, with 10:30 remaining in the first quarter. 

Balke added his second field goal of the game, this time from 27 yards to push Benedictine to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. Baker connected on a 41-yard field in the second quarter and sent the game to halftime with Benedictine leading 13-3.

Dalton Witherspoon scored a pair of second-half touchdowns on the ground. He opened the third-quarter scoring with a 22-yard rushing touchdown and then capped off the scoring for the game with a 25-yard rush with 7:35 left in the game. Between touchdown rushes, Balke added a 42-yard field late into the third quarter to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.

Benedictine finished with 4 sacks defensively while totaling 10 tackles for a loss of 51 yards with three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Javhi Blomquist and Jagger Blubaugh led the defense with 7 total tackles each. Isaac Anderson and Kevin Harris finished with 1.5 sacks each while Health Baker and Eric Chavez accounted for part of the remaining sack. Harris finished with 3.5 tackles for a loss out his five total tackles while Anderson added 2.5 tackles.

Offensively, the Ravens finished with a total of 341 yards – 246 yards rushing and 95 yards passing. Witherspoon finished with 158 yards on 24 carries with 2 touchdowns. Dooley finished with 95 yards passing on 9 of 21 while Jacob Gathright led the receivers with 48 yards on 3 receptions.

The Ravens remain on the road for their next game, traveling to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Missouri Baptist University next Saturday.
