Men's Basketball earned its first win of the season Wednesday night.
The Ravens took down the Haskell Indian Nations University 76-64 at home.
The Ravens were able to do three key things in the opening half as they took a 48-30 lead into the halftime break.
First, they got the ball inside, scoring 16 points in the paint. Second, they were excellent from the free throw line, shooting 12-of-14 from the stripe in the first 20 minutes. Finally, the Ravens knocked down 6-12 3-pointers. Braden Belt made three of those treys for the Ravens, with Ahmad Louis knocking down both of his shots from deep in the first half.
The Ravens shot 55.6% from the field in the opening half while limiting Haskell to 28.1% shooting.
Haskell proved to be tough competition in the second half, though. The visitors held the Ravens scoreless for nearly 5 minutes, using a 13-2 run to get back in the game. A baseline runner by Brycen LaRue snapped the scoreless streak.
After a 3-point play for Haskell with 3:34 left to play cut the Ravens lead to 68-64, the Ravens rattled off 8-straight points to close out the game and get the win.
Belt finished with a game-high 23 points, hitting six 3-pointers in the contest. Preston Reynolds added 13 points and 13 rebounds to pick up a double-double, and LaRue scored 10 points. Ezrah Vaigafa had 8 points, 6 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks.
The Ravens finished the game shooting 46.2% from the field and 45.5% from deep. They held Haskell to 35.5% shooting from the field and 34.8% from long range, while also out-rebounding Haskell 42-32.
The Ravens (1-1) will have plenty of time to prepare for their next contest as they don't take the court again until 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at home against Concordia.
