BALDWIN CITY – Benedictine Men's Basketball ran into a hot-shooting Baker squad on Wednesday night as the two rival renewed their rivalry to open up Heart play inside the Collins Center.
Baker hit 55.8 percent from the field with 7 3-pointers en route to a 76-56 win over the Ravens.
The Wildcats scored first and built an early 4-point lead before Ahmad Louis tied the game at 7-7. Gino Corridori tied the game for a second time at 9-9 less than a minute later.
Benedictine had two stretches over the final 12 minutes of the half where they went 3-4 minutes without converting a basket. The second offensive drought allowed the Wildcats to push their lead into double figures for the first time before taking a 32-30 lead into halftime.
Braden Belt hit a 3-pointer out of the halftime break that sparked the Ravens offense. After a pair of Brycen LaRue free throws, Preston Reynolds scored a basket in the paint to pull the Ravens back within 6. That was all the closer they could get to the Wildcats as Baker answered with a run that pushed their lead back to as much as 22 near the midpoint of the half.
Benedictine finished the game, shooting 34.5 percent from the floor with 7 3-pointers as one player reached double figures. Corridori and Belt led the Ravens with 11 points, with all of Belt's coming in the second half as he connected on 3 3-pointers. Corridori connected on 5 of 6 of his shots.
The Ravens return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Clarke University inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
