Women's Soccer picked up a win in the quarterfinals of the Heart Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens knocked off the Park University Pirates at home in Atchison.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Sam Mausbach made a strong dribble forward and then played the ball to Christine Znidarsic, who then played it to the left side of the box for Riley Degner. After a touch, Degner sent a shot in to the far right side of the goal, beating the diving Park keeper to put the Ravens up 1-0.
The Ravens doubled their lead 10 minutes later. Emily Shepherd tracked down a loose ball and sent it forward into the box. Znidarsic collected it off a deflection and then slotted a shot past the keeper to put the Ravens up 2-0.
With 10 minutes to play before half, Znidarsic added her second goal of the game to make it 3-0 in favor of the Ravens. This goal came on a one-touch after Jenna Wilken sent a lovely cross into the box.
Park was able to get a few shots on goal but Mackenzie Korzenecki was there to clear the threats, making 5 saves in the opening half.
The Pirates came out ready to go in the second half, needing just 34 seconds to score their first goal of the game to cut the Ravens lead to 3-1. That would be as close as the visitors could get, though.
The Ravens managed the remaining 44 minutes well, cruising to a 3-1 win. The victory propels the Ravens into the semifinals of the Heart Championship Tournament. Their opponent will be decided Saturday night. Check back on www.ravenathletics.com for game location and time.
