Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball opens home schedule with four-game split against St. Ambrose University

Raven Baseball opened up its home schedule over the weekend with a four-game series with St. Ambrose University.

St. Ambrose took the first game both days before Benedictine rallied to split both doubleheaders. Saturday, the Fighting Bees won 17-3 before the Ravens rallied for a 15-8 win and then on Sunday, the Fighting Bees took game 1, 10-6, before the Ravens took game 2, 5-2.

Game 1: SAU 17, Benedictine 3.
SAU pulled out to a 6-0 lead before the Ravens rallied for a 3-run bottom of the third. Those three runs would be all the Ravens could manage as the Fighting Bees tacked on 11 more runs over the final three innings to earn the win.

Andrew Baier suffered the loss, pitching the first 3 innings. He allowed 6 earned runs off 9 hits with 3 strikeouts before Cole Voss and Ethan Arnold finished off the game.

At the plate, the Ravens finished with 7 hits. Theo Kummer led the offense going 2 for 3. Hunter Moffett, Brylan Haas, and Ashton Neuman recorded doubles at the plate while Danny Favazza added a triple.

Game 2: Benedictine 15, SAU 8.
Benedictine scored 7 runs over the first two innings as they exploded for 16 hits – which included 8 extra-base hits – to split the first two games of the series.

Jackson Sarver was the beneficiary of Benedictine's offensive explosion at the plate. He threw 5 and two-thirds innings to earn the win. He finished with 3 strikeouts while giving up 6 runs off 9 hits.

Favazza hit a pair of home runs in the win while Moffett added a home run and double to finish with 5 RBI. Neuman, Jack Harpole, and Jack Minnis added a double while Minnis also recorded a home run. Favazza, Neuman and Minnis also added 2 RBIs.

Game 3: SAU 10, Benedictine 6.
St. Ambrose used a 4-run sixth inning to hold off a late-inning rally from Benedictine to open Sunday with a win.

Matthew Gephardt threw the first 3 innings on the hill, giving up 3 runs off 4 hits in the loss. Ben DeLa Forest, Lance Bolles, and Cole Peters combined to finish the game on the hill.

At the plate, the Ravens scored their 6 runs off 9 hits. Moffet went 3 for 4 with a home run while Harpole and Minnis recorded doubles. Kummer added 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the loss.

Game 4: Benedictine 5, SAU
Benedictine finished off the weekend with their second win behind a complete-game effort from starting pitcher Ben Bowman.

Bowman held the Fighting Bees to a single hit through six innings before eventually giving up the shutout with a 2-run seventh inning. Against 29 battles faced, he allowed just 3 hits with a strikeout to earn the win.

At the plate, the Ravens finished with 6 hits. Kummer went 2 of 4 and an RBI while Harpole and Jeshua Bertaud added an RBI each.

Benedictine returns to the road on Wednesday for a mid-week 9-inning game at the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth before returning to Olsen Stadium for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday against Dordt University.
