Top-ranked Women's Lacrosse opens season with 13-goal win over (RV) Ottawa

OTTAWA – Women's Lacrosse was finally able to open their season on Saturday, as the No. 1-ranked Ravens took on Ottawa University.

The top-ranked Ravens took care of their former KCAC foe earning a 20-7 win over the Braves.

Benedictine jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first quarter and added 2 more in the second quarter to lead 9-3 at the halftime break. A 6-goal third quarter allowed them to extend their lead and then on their second goal of the fourth quarter, the Ravens kicked in the 10-goal running clock, leading 17-7.

Chanterra Allen scored the first goal of the game. Trailing 2-1, the Ravens got goals from Kaylen Moore and Courtney Frankfurth to pull ahead 7-2. Moore scored a total of 3 goals in the quarter while Frankfurth added 4.

The duo of Moore and Frankfurth would finish the game as the Ravens top two goal scorers. Frankfurth finished with 8 while Moore added 7. Allen scored 3 while Kiera Russell and Christen Michaelides added a goal each. 

Grace Simonson led the Ravens with 4 assists. Moore added 2 assists while Allen and Regan Engle recorded 1 each. 

Benedictine finished the game with a 22-8 advantage in draw controls. Moore led the way with 13 while Russell added 6.

Gianna Stelletti earned the win in goal. She recorded 6 saves over 60 minutes. 

The Ravens will play a pair of games this week. They travel to Fremont, Neb., on Monday to make up their game with Midland University that was originally scheduled as their season opener back on Feb. 18. They will play their home opener on Thursday, hosting No. 8 Missouri Baptist University at 4 p.m.
