Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Fourth-quarter comeback by (1) Women's Lacrosse falls short in loss to (8) Missouri Baptist

No. 8 Missouri Baptist University held off a fourth-quarter push from No. 1 Women's Lacrosse on Thursday afternoon to earn a 13-12 upset over the Ravens. 

The Spartans scored 5 straight goals starting with 7:38 remaining in the third quarter and finishing with 10:49 left in the fourth quarter. Benedictine answered with goals from Chanterra Allen and Courtney Frankfurth to pull within a goal before the teams traded goals over the final 4:27 allowing Missouri Baptist to hang on for the win.

Missouri Baptist scored the first goal of the game just over one minute in. Benedictine responded with two goals from Frankfurth that sandwiched a goal from Kaylen Moore.

Benedictine led 5-2 after the first quarter before Missouri Baptist held a 4-1 advantage in the second quarter to send the game into halftime tied at 6 goals. 

After briefly falling behind to start the third quarter, the Ravens scored three straight from Moore, Kiera Russell, and Frankfurth to take a 9-7 lead with 8:21 left in the third quarter. From there, the Spartans outscored the Ravens 6-3 to erase their third-quarter deficit and pull ahead of Benedictine.

Frankfurth led the Ravens in scoring with 5 goals while Moore added 3. Russell and Allen added 2 goals each to round out the Ravens scoring effort. Moore and Allen were joined by Grace Simonson with an assist each.

Defensively, the Ravens recorded 8 caused turnovers as the Spartans committed 13. Moore led the way with 4 while also leading the team with 7 draw controls. Missouri Baptist held the advantage on draw controls, 16-13.

Gianna Stalletti went the distance in goal for Benedictine. She finished with 15 saves, 7 of which came in the fourth quarter which helped Benedictine get back into the game. 

The Ravens head to Florida for a Spring Break trip. They open the three-game trip against No. 4 Kaiser before taking on (RV) Siena Heights and (RV) Ave Maria. 

They return home on March 18 to host No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Legacy Field.
