Softball caps off Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic with upset over (1) Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – Softball wrapped up their trip to the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic with a 2-2 record and an upset over No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University.

In the first day of play, they split with Langston University and Jarvis Christian, falling to Langston 7-3 in five innings due to a time limit, before wrapping up the day with a 2-1 win over Jarvis Christian.

Saturday, they dropped their first game with St. Mary-Woods, 4-1, before earning a 3-1 win over the top-ranked Stars.

Benedictine 3, (1) Oklahoma City 1
Kera Willoughby earned a complete-game win over the Stars inside the circle. She gave up 1 run off 3 hits over 7 innings with 2 strikeouts.

At the plate, Megan Medhus recorded a double. Ally Pickering went 2 for 3 while Madison Zaccardo, Willougby, and Kassidy James all recorded an RBI.

Langston 7, Benedictine 3.
Langston scored 4 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead over the Ravens before Benedictine scored a run in the bottom half of the inning before time was called.

Clare Heitz opened the game inside the circle and threw the first inning and two-thirds. Willoughby took over and threw the final three and a third innings in relief. 

Zaccardo and Hietz recorded a double each at the plate while Bella Ingui recorded 2 RBI while Zaccardo added a third.

Benedictine 2, Jarvis Christian 1.
Rilee Bell singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning as the Ravens earned their first win of the trip.

Lacey Foster earned the start inside the circle and went the distance giving up one run off two hits with 6 strikeouts.

Bell went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Natalie Sheffield went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Ravens at the plate.

St. Mary-Woods 4, Benedictine 1
Saturday's opener saw the Ravens limited to just one run off three hits.

Foster suffered the loss, throwing the first 5 and a third innings. She gave up three earned runs off 8 hits with 2 strikeouts before Abby Pressgrove finished the game off, holding St. Mary-Woods to just one hit over an inning and two-thirds.

Pickering recorded an RBI double in the third to score James for the Ravens offensive output in the loss.

The Ravens remain on the road for two more doubleheaders during Spring Break. They take on USAO today in Chickasha, Okla,. Before returning to Oklahoma City on Tuesday for a doubleheader with OCU.
