Softball sweeps Heart doubleheader over Peru State, 22-14 and 10-0

PERU, Neb. – Softball scored 32 runs over 11 innings on Wednesday as they picked up a road sweep over Peru State College.

Benedictine finished game one with 18 hits en route to a 22-14 win before earning a 10-0 shutout in game two.

Leading 15-5 headed to the bottom of the fourth inning, the Ravens allowed 8 runs from the Bobcats to give up their first lead of the day. They answered with a 5-run fifth inning and a 2-run sixth inning while limiting Peru State to just one more run en route to the win.

Of Benedictine's 18 hits, 5 hits were for extra bases. Bella Ingui hit a pair of doubles, Kassidy James hit a triple while Madison Zaccardo and Megan Medhus each hit a home run. James finished the game hitting 3 of 4 at the plate with 4 RBI, Zaccardo went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, Natalie Sheffield went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI while Ingui finished at 3 for 3 with 5 runs scored.

Kera Willoughby and Lacey Foster combined inside the circle for the Ravens. Willoughby gave up 3 earned runs while Foster added 2 strikeouts.

In game two, the Ravens broke out with a 4-run first inning and never looked back. They finished with 10 hits to score their 10 runs, which was more than enough for Baily Selvage inside the circle.

Selvage held the Bobcats to 2 hits over 6 innings en route to the shutout. 

Zaccardo and Sheffield finished with a double each at the plate while Rilee Bell added a triple. James went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Bell went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Clare Heitz led the Ravens with 2 RBI.

Benedictine remains on the road Saturday, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, to take on Grand View University in a doubleheader before returning home on Sunday to host a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Graceland University on Ravens Field.
