Softball picked up a Senior Day sweep Sunday afternoon.
The Ravens topped the Graceland University Yellowjackets 2-0 and 9-5 to continue their recent hot streak.
Game 1
The Ravens won a pitching duel in Sunday's opener. The Ravens Kera Willoughby started in the circle and went five shutout innings and recording 3 strikeouts to earn the win. Abby Pressgrove took over and picked up a save with 2 perfect innings.
The offensive firepower came in the fourth inning. After Pressgrove reached on a bunt single, Clare Heitz blasted a 2-run homer. That blast proved to be the game-winner as the Ravens held on for the 2-0 win.
Game 2
While the Ravens leaned on their pitching in the first game, it was the bats that came alive in the second contest. With the game tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning, the Ravens grabbed control of proceedings by putting up 5 runs.
Natalie Sheffield kicked things off with a single and then scored on Halley Rindom's double. Rindom moved to third on a bunt single by Hailey Burmeister and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kassidy James. Megan Medhus delivered the biggest hit of the inning, smoking a 2-run home run to right-center field. The Ravens weren't done, though, as Madison Zaccardo singled and scored on a double by Heitz.
The Ravens added 2 more in the third when Medhus singled home Burmeister and Rindom to put the Ravens up 8-1. Zaccardo delivered the final blow for the home team with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Medhus led the way with 4 RBIs and a pair of hits as she closes in on the Ravens all-time hits record. The senior has 216 career hits, right behind the record of 222 set by Blair Shanks. Heitz and Zaccardo also had 2 hits, with Heitz recording 2 RBIs.
Lacey Foster earned the start in the circle and got through 1.1 innings before being replaced by Pressgrove. Foster re-entered for Pressgrove after the fourth inning, giving up 3 runs in the final 3 innings as the Ravens won 9-5.
In total, Foster gave up 4 runs through 4.2 innings and Pressgrove allowed a solo homer in her 2.1 innings in the second game.
The Ravens have now won 8 of their past 9 games to move to 20-19 on the season and 10-6 in Heart of America play. Next up will be a doubleheader at Grand View University Tuesday, April 18.
