FAYETTE, Mo. – (RV) Central Methodist held off a late-inning rally in the series finale on Sunday with Baseball to sweep the Heart series over the Ravens.
The Eagles took Saturday's doubleheader 5-2, 11-2, before taking Sunday's doubleheader 3-1, 9-7.
Game 1: CMU 5, Benedictine 2
The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie with a 3-run bottom of the sixth to earn the win.
Nelson Klein earned the start and pitched into the sixth inning to suffer the loss. He gave up 3 runs off 6 hits with 2 strikeouts before Ben DeLaForest recorded the final 6 outs of the game on the hill.
Danny Favazza went 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run to score one of the Ravens two runs while Hunter Moffet scored the second.
Game 2: CMU 11, Benedictine 2
The Eagles used a 5-run third inning and a 4-run fifth inning to distance themselves from the Ravens in Saturday's finale.
Jackson Sarver earned the start on the hill and suffered the loss. He threw 3 innings, giving up 6 earned runs off 8 hits with 2 strikeouts before Ethan Arnold and Cole Voss finished off the game.
Theo Kummer went 1 for 3 with a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth while Zac Demos added a double at the plate.
Game 3: CMU 3, Benedictine 1
Ben Bowman and Matthew Gephardt split the 6-inning effort on the hill with Bowman throwing the first 3 innings in the 2-run loss.
CMU starting pitcher Alan West threw a complete game for the Eagles and was credited with a no-hitter. Benedictine's lone run was unearned after Ashton Neuman scored Moffet on a sac fly.
Bowman suffered the loss, giving up 2 runs off 4 hits before Gephardt finished off the game, giving up a run off 4 hits with 2 strikeouts.
Game 4: CMU 9, Benedictine 7
Brylan Haas hit a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning as the Ravens rallied to score 4 runs but came up short in the 2-run loss.
CMU used a 4-run bottom of the sixth to turn a 2-run game into a 9-3 lead headed to the sixth, which proved to be the difference in the outcome.
Lance Bolles suffered the loss, throwing 5 and one-third innings. He gave up 5 earned runs off 10 hits before DeLaForest recorded the final 2 outs for the Ravens.
Chase Pearson went 2 for 2 at the plate with 3 runs scored, a double, a home run, and RBI. Favazza went 2 for 4 with a run scored while Kummer and Skyler Specht joined Pearson with doubles.
The Ravens remain on the road Thursday and Saturday as they travel to Baldwin City for a four-game series with Baker University. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. each day.
