OLATHE – Benedictine Men's Basketball limited MNU to just 26 points in the second half on Wednesday night, but couldn't overcome a hot start to the game by the Pioneers.
MNU connected on 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half en route to 45 points as they pulled ahead of Benedictine by 15 points before earning a 71-54 win.
Back-to-back baskets from Gino Corridori tied the game at 4 inside the first four minutes before MeNu went on a 12-2 run that pushed their lead to double figures. A 3-pointer from Braden Belt and a pair of free throws pulled the Ravens back within 5 points twice midway through the half before the Pioneers outscored the Ravens 25-13 over the final 9 minutes of the half to take a 45-32 lead into halftime.
After giving up 17 first-half field goals, the Ravens limited the Pioneers to 11 second-half field goals and just 1 3-pointer. Benedictine matched the Pioneers 3-point total, connecting on 9 of their field goals as they were outscored 26-24 in the half.
Benedictine opened the second half on a 9-0 run that was capped off by Brycen LaRue cutting the Ravens deficit down to 45-36. That was all the closer the Ravens were able to get as the Pioneers answered the run and pulled back ahead by double figures the rest of the game.
Corridori led the Ravens with 13 points while LaRue added 9 points.
The Ravens return home on Saturday to host Graceland University at 4 p.m. inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
