Women's Soccer earned an important win at home Wednesday evening.
The Ravens knocked off the No. 6 Central Methodist University Eagles, 3-2, moving up in the conference standings. It was the first Ravens win against the Eagles since 2020.
The Ravens took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a Caysi Brown goal in the 6th minute. Christine Znidarsic sent a corner kick into the box that the Eagles keeper attempted to punch away, but Brown was there to send a header into the net for the early goal.
It didn't take long for the Ravens to double their lead. Payton Vogelbacher dribbled around the CMU defense then cut into the middle before playing a ball to Kourtney Koc who slotted a shot into the left side of the net to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead in the 10th minute.
The Eagles found an answer before half, scoring on a deep shot outside the box to cut the Ravens lead to 2-1 at halftime.
The Ravens pushed their lead to 3-1 thanks to a from Payton Vogelbacher, who beat the Eagles keeper with a deep shot in the 60th minute.
The Eagles answered right back, though, scoring a goal on a corner kick to trim the Ravens lead to 1 goal with 27 minutes left to play.
However, the Ravens defense made sure the Eagles would never find an equalizer. Each time CMU pressed forward, the Ravens and keeper Mackenzie Korzenecki made a play to hold onto their lead. The final 27 minutes passed without a goal as the Ravens earned the upset. Korzenecki made 5 saves in the win.
With the victory, the Ravens slide into the No. 2 spot in the Heart of America Conference standings with an identical conference record, 8-2, as the Eagles. Both teams are looking up at Missouri Valley College, which is 9-0-1.
The Ravens (11-5-1) close out the regular season with an 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 contest at William Penn University.
