(24) Volleyball wraps up road trip with sweeps over Clarke, Mount Mercy

No. 24 Benedictine Volleyball kept pace at the top of the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings with a pair of road sweeps on Friday and Saturday.

Benedictine opened the trip with a 3-0 win over Clarke University on Friday night before earning a 3-0 win over Mount Mercy University on Saturday in the Heart Conference Network Game of the Week.

The two wins move the Ravens to 10-3 in the Heart, a game behind No. 21 CMU – who the Ravens host on Tuesday – for first place in the Heart standings.

In the sweep on Friday over Clarke, the Ravens won 25-20, 25-15 and 25-15. They finished with a .294 attack percentage with 49 kills.

Haley Cahill and Marissa Mantz anchored the attack as the Ravens finished with 49 assists. Cahill finished with 25 while Mantz finished with 20.

Mahala Sewell led the attack with 13 kills while Winny Harris added 10. Maura Lickteig added 9 kills to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.

Hokulani Sagapolu was the lone Raven in double figures in digs with 16. Lickteig was joined by Regan Bruggeman with 2 block assists each.

In the sweep over Mount Mercy, the Ravens earned wins over 25-17 and 25-22 before coming back from a 21-15 deficit in the third set to earn a 28-26 win and complete the sweep.

The Ravens hit .216 as a team with 53 kills. The attack was anchored by Cahill and Mantz once against Cahill, who led the way with 27 assists while Mantz added 18.

Sewell led three Ravens in double figures on the attack with 16 kills. Bruggeman and Lickteig added 10 each while Sagapolu rounded out the attack with 9 kills.

Four Ravens reached double figures in digs, led by Sagapolu with 25. Kara Gagliano added 13, followed by Cahill with 11 and Kelly DeMeulenaere with 10. Lickteg finished with a solo block and block assist while Harris, Lucy Drexel, and Bruggeman added a solo block each. Sewell added 2 block assists.

Benedictine hosts No. 21 Central Methodist at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
