Women's Soccer was eliminated from the Heart Women's Soccer Championship Tournament at home on Friday night.
The No. 2 seed Ravens lost to the No. 3 seed Central Methodist University Eagles, 4-1, in the semifinals of the Heart Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, all five goals came in the final 45 minutes. The Eagles accumulated a number of set pieces to open the second half and it finally paid off for CMU as they scored on a corner kick in the 57th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles doubled their lead in the 71st minute to take a 2-0 lead. Then, in just 5 minutes, the Eagles added two more goals to take a 4-0 lead and take full control of the match.
The Ravens were able to find a goal late in the game when Payton Vogelbacher drilled a shot from deep in the 81st minute – very similar to her deep goal against the Eagles in the Ravens win on Oct. 23. But that would be the only goal for the Ravens as CMU advanced to the Heart Women's Soccer Championship match.
The Ravens found themselves on the defensive in the opening 45 minutes. The bulk of the action was in the Ravens defensive third of the field as the Eagles controlled possession. Despite controlling the ball for most of the first half though, CMU managed just 4 shots and only 1 of those were on goal.
The Ravens went the entire first half without recording a shot. That changed in the second half as the Ravens notched 6 shots including Vogelbacher's goal. Mackenzie Korzenecki finished the match with 4 saves.
The Ravens (13-6-1) will now play the waiting game as conference tournaments conclude around the NAIA. The qualifiers for the NAIA National Tournament will be announced at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
