PARKVILLE, Mo. – Benedictine Men's Basketball launched a second-half comeback against Park University on Wednesday night, but saw those efforts fall short as the Pirates earned a 61-60 win.
Benedictine outscored Park 36-22 in the second half and used a 10-0 run to erase a 10-point second-half deficit with six minutes remaining in the game to tie the game at 56. A 3-pointer from Park with just over one minute remaining int the game proved to be the difference as Gino Corridori scored the Ravens last basket with 33 seconds remaining.
Corridori gave the Ravens the early lead on a 3-pointer 90 seconds in the game. Park countered with an 11-0 run that gave them an 11-3 lead before Braden Belt scored the Ravens second basket of the game.
After trailing by as much as 13 near the midpoint during the first half, the Ravens were sparked by Jack Vander Woude as he connected on 3 3-pointers along with a basket in the paint from Corridori cutting their deficit down to 5.
Park countered Benedictine's run and held the Ravens to just two field goals over the final 3 minutes as they pushed back ahead by 15 at the half.
Benedictine's first run – 10-0 – erased a 14-point deficit and pulled the Ravens within four, 46-42, near the midpoint of the second half.
Three Ravens finished the game in double figures as Ahmad Louis matched Vander Woude with 12 points. Corridori finished with 11 as Brycen LaRue and Belt added 9 points each.
Benedictine returns home for two of their final three games of the regular season, celebrating Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. as they take on Mount Mercy University inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
