Men's Basketball fell to the Mount Mercy University Mustangs, 77-63, at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens took a 1-point lead into the halftime break after a terrible start to the game. The Mustangs opened the contest on a 13-2 run to force a Ravens timeout, but the home side quickly found their strike.
A 9-0 run after the timeout got the Ravens back in the game and by the 6:13 mark of the first half, the Ravens had erased their bad start and tied the game at 23-23. The teams traded leads in the final minutes until a basket and free throw by Bence Duka helped the Ravens to a 35-34 lead at the break.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, another Mustangs run in the second half put the game out of reach. MMU went on a 16-1 run over the course of 7 minutes to go up 52-42 and take control.
The Mustangs pushed their lead to 17, but the Ravens cut it down to 11 at a couple different points. However, the Ravens were never able to get back within single-digits and lost by 14.
Brycen LaRue scored 14 to lead Ravens scorers while also grabbing 6 rebounds, and Gino Corridori added 10 points and 7 boards. Ahmad Louis had 9 points and 4 assists.
The Ravens shot 40.3% from the field, but were just 5-of-27 from 3-point range – 18.5% – with the Mustangs shooting 43.6% from the field.
A big difference came at the free throw line as Mount Mercy converted 22-28 from the stripe and the Ravens were just 8-14.
The loss moves the Ravens to 8-17 overall and 7-15 in Heart of America play. They'll have their home finale at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 when they take on Grand View University.
