A day after dropping the first two of the four-game series with Dordt University, Benedictine Baseball swept the Saturday doubleheader over the defenders.
Dordt took the first two of the series, 3-2 and 6-4 on Friday afternoon before Benedictine rallied for a series split with a pair of wins on Saturday, 8-3 and 14-13.
Game 1: Dordt 3, Benedictine 2.
Dordt scored 3 runs in the third inning and held Benedictine to just three hits en route to the series-opening win.
Ben DeLaForest got the start on the hill in the opener. He went sixth and one-third innings, giving up 3 unearned runs off 5 hits before Jackson Sarver finished off the game.
Jack Minnis had the Ravens lone extra-base hit, a double while Ashton Neuman and Rhett Spell were credited with an RBI each.
Game 2: Dordt 6, Benedictine 4.
The Ravens seventh-inning rally came up short in game two of the series as the defenders scored a run in all but the fourth inning.
Lance Bolles threw the first 4 innings in the loss, giving up 4 runs off 7 hits before Matthew Gephardt and Carson Kasl finished off the game.
Benedictine finished with 8 hits, three for extra bases, as Hunter Moffet, Brice Martin, and Jaden Zimmerman each recorded a double. Tyler Marchand, Minnis, and Neuman joined Moffet with an RBI each.
Game 3: Benedictine 8, Dordt 3.
Benedictine scored 2 runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings in support of Ethan Arnold on the hill en route to the win.
Arnold threw a complete game for the Ravens – the first on the year – giving up 3 runs off 3 hits with 2 strikeouts.
Moffet hit a 2-run home run in the second while Rhett Spell added an RBI double in the third. Jack Harpole and Brice Martin finished with 2 RBI to round out the Ravens efforts offensively.
Game 4: Benedictine 13, Dordt 13.
Benedictine scored 6 runs in the second inning and added 7 more in the third to take a commanding lead over Dordt before the defenders stormed back to score 6 runs in the sixth and 4 in the seventh before Benedictine earned the win.
Gephardt finished off a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to earn the save and was the sixth pitcher of the game for the Ravens.
Sarver earned the start and threw the first 3 innings, giving up 2 runs off 4 hits with 6 strikeouts. Ben Bowman took over and threw the next two and one-third innings, but allowed 4 earned runs off 4 hits before Charlie Easton, Kasl and Harper Beattie bridged the gap between Sarver and Gephardt.
Benedictine recorded a season-high 12 hits in the win, of which, half were for extra bases. Moffet Neuman and Skyler Specht all recorded a home run. Harpole added a triple and Sam Schell joined Moffet with a double. Moffet finished the game with 5 RBI, followed Neuman and Specht with 3. Zimmerman added 2 while Schell finished with 1.
The Ravens remain at home on Tuesday, for a 9-inning game with Northwest Missouri State University at 2 p.m.
