Ravens Softball remained unbeaten on their first homestand of the season Sunday afternoon.
The Ravens swept the Concordia University Bulldogs, winning Game 1 by a score of 4-0, then closing out the doubleheader with a 6-3 win in Game 2.
Game 1
Bailey Selvage turned in another fantastic effort in the circle for the Ravens. The sophomore turned in her second-straight 14 strikeout, complete game performance. Selvage limited the Bulldogs to just 4 hits – all singles – in the win to improve her record to 5-0 on the season.
The Ravens batters produced timely hitting to back up Selvage's outstanding start. Baylee Knorr had two doubles and an RBI, and Chloe Strickland also had a double and an RBI.
The first run came in the bottom of the third when Kera Willoughby launched a solo homer. Kassidy James was later hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Knorr.
The Ravens added 2 more in the sixth inning. Knorr reached on her second double and scored on Strickland's double. Strickland notched the final run on a sacrifice bunt by Clare Heitz.
Game 2
The Ravens faced a 3-0 deficit heading into the fourth inning of the second contest, but the turned the game around with a big inning.
Clare Heitz singled home Strickland to open the Ravens scoring, and then Natalie Sheffield scored on a fielder's choice that allowed Sam Bertoncino to reach. Rhiannon Martin doubled home Heitz to level the score, 3-3, and the Ravens weren't done.
Ryan Cooper followed Martin with a double of her own to score both runners, then Cooper scored on a Kassidy James single to put the Ravens up 6-3.
Willoughby and the Ravens made the lead stick, holding the Bulldogs scoreless the final 3 innings to improve the Ravens record to 10-2.
Willoughby came on in relief and went 5.1 innings after Lacey Foster started the game in the circle and went 1.2 innings, allowing 2 runs.
The Ravens homestand continues when they host Saint Mary at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 on Ravens Field.
