FT. WORTH, Texas – Benedictine Baseball opened up the 2024 season on Saturday, taking on Park (Ariz.) University in a doubleheader hosted by Texas Wesleyan.
The Buccaneers earned a sweep over the Ravens, winning game one 9-4 and game two 11-7.
In the opener, the Ravens gave up 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning to fall behind 8-1. From the second inning on, the Ravens outscored the Buccaneers 3-1 but couldn't overcome the 8-run first inning.
Andrew Baier suffered the loss, giving up 7 earned runs before he was relieved by Ethan Arnold. Arnold was credited with the remaining two runs before Evan DeMint and Carson Kasl combined the throw the final 2 and two-thirds, shutting out the Buccaneers.
At the plate, the Ravens finished with 7 hits anchored by two doubles from Dominic Ferrari who also finished with 3 RBI. Brice Martin added the Ravens fourth RBI as he finished with 2 hits.
In game two, the Buccaneers scored 5 runs in the second and 3 runs in the third before the Ravens scored 6 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Lance Bolles earned the start in game two, He threw the first three innings, giving up 4 earned runs off 7 hits to suffer the loss before Jackson Sarver threw the final three innings, allowing three unearned runs.
At the plate, the Ravens finished with 8 hits, four for extra bases. Rhett Spell hit the first home run of the season for the Ravens with a solo shot in the third. Ferrari and Hunter Moffet added a pair of doubles while Jack Harpole tripled.
Benedictine wraps up its first weekend road trip on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader with Texas Wesleyan.
