ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Benedictine Women's Lacrosse took down No. 5 Missouri Baptist University on Wednesday night in their final non-conference game of the season.
The No. 10-ranked finished with a 41-15 advantage in shots en route to an 18-8 win over the Spartans to extend their winning streak to 7 and snap the Missouri Baptist winning streak at 7 games.
Kiera Russell contributed to Benedictine's 2-0 start, scoring the first goal of the game just 16 seconds into the game before assisting on Chanterra Allen's goal at 13:13 in the first quarter.
The Spartans scored seconds after Allen's goal, but that goal was answered by four unanswered goals from Benedictine – two more from Allen and the first two of the game for Kaylen Moore. With just over three minutes left in the quarter, the Spartans added their second goal which was answered by six straight goals this time around that kicked in the mercy rule running clock with 11:35 left in the second quarter as Moore scored two more to make it 12-2.
By halftime, the Spartans closed with 7 goals, scoring two straight to end the half. They came out and scored the first goal of the third quarter to close within 6 goals before four straight goals by Benedictine pushed the Ravens lead back over 10 goals for good with 6:22 left in the third quarter.
In total Benedictine scored 5 third-quarter goals to put away the NAIA-ranked Spartans before finishing with their 10-point lead as the final horn sounded.
Moore led the Ravens with 7 goals and 2 assists. The reigning Heart Defensive Player of the Week finished the game with 11 draw controls, 2 caused turnovers, and 4 ground balls.
Allen finished with 5 goals, followed by Elizabeth Pluta with 3 goals. Russell finished with 2 goals while Margaux Gelbach added the remaining goal. Russell led the Raven with 3 assists while Pluta and Gelbach were joined by Christen Michaelides with 1 assist each.
Russell finished with four ground balls while Gelbach, Michaelides, Alexa Hildenbrand, Russell, and Allen finished with 1 caused turnover each.
Molly Owen earned the win in goal, playing all 60 minutes. She finished the game with 5 saves to move to 3-1 on the season.
Benedictine wraps up the regular season at 4 p.m. Friday, hosting Heart opponent (RV) St. Ambrose University.
