Men's Soccer opened the season at home on the right foot Tuesday evening.
The Ravens attack looked strong as they defeated the Friends University Falcons, 4-1, in both teams' season opener.
After the two teams traded possession through the first 15 minutes of play, the Ravens started to play from the front foot and challenged the Falcons defense. The pressure paid off in the form of a Norberto Montero goal in the 20th minute, assisted by Carson Wilcox.
Nima Samadian's effort in the 34th minute doubled the Ravens lead as he forced a Friends turnover and then beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the home side. The Ravens maintained that lead the remainder of the first half, taking the 2-goal advantage into the break.
It took the Ravens just 10 minutes in the second half to add on to their lead. Adem Aroua was fouled outside the 18-yard box and Diego Acuna be the keeper with a bending shot for the Ravens goal and 3-0 lead.
The Falcons were able to score in the 65th minute to pull back a goal, but the Ravens closed out the scoring in the 75th minute on a beautiful goal. Feliipe Vargas sent a cross into the box and Fabian Viquez left his feet for the shot attempt, kicking it into the corner of the goal to cap off the Ravens season-opening victory.
The Ravens out-shot the Falcons 16-8, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Noah Reuscher made 3 saves in goal in nearly 65 minutes of action for the Ravens, and Carlos Flores finished out the remaining 25 minutes in goal, making 1 save.
The Ravens (1-0) will return to action on their home field at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, taking on (RV) Williams Baptist.
