Football holds firm in latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off its second win of Heart South play and the third time in the last four games they have surpassed 50 points, Benedictine Football remained at No. 3 as the NAIA released the sixth poll of the regular season.

Benedictine (6-1) earned 206 points to remain at No. 3 as the Netting Professionals NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll saw a shake up in the top five for the first time in three weeks.

While the top three remained unchanged with No. 1 Grand View (436 points) earning all 16 first-place votes and No. 2 Keiser (422 points) ahead of Benedictine, the top five is rounded out by a fourth-place tie this week between Friends and Montana Tech. The two programs earned 387 points after moving to 7-0 headed into this week.

In addition to Benedictine and Grand View, the Heart of America Athletic Conference has a third team ranked this week. William Penn (153 points) moved up to No. 21 from No. 25 and is the only other Heart program inside the poll. After Baker knocked off MNU on Saturday in Baldwin City, MNU dropped out of the poll, but is still listed in the receiving votes category with Baker. MNU is the third team listed with 43 points while Baker earned 2 points to move back into the category.

Benedictine currently ranks fourth in the NAIA in scoring (336), points per game (48.0), rushing touchdowns (23) and interceptions returns (10-222 yards). They also rank fifth in total offense (3,519) and sixth in passing touchdowns (22). They also rank second in the NAIA in red zone scoring (34 of 38) and red zone touchdowns (30 of 38).

The Ravens host two straight home games, starting Saturday at 1 p.m. as they welcome William Woods University to campus for the first time ever. The Owls are coming off the program's first-ever NAIA win last week in Fulton, Mo., where the beat Missouri Valley 36-35. In the first-ever meeting for the program's last year in Fulton, Benedictine earned a 86-0 win to close out their regular season.
