Men's Basketball earns 10-point win over Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. – After trading the lead four times with Culver-Stockton College on Saturday afternoon, Benedictine Men's Basketball took the lead on a 3-pointer from Brycen LaRue inside the first 5 minutes of the game and never looked back.

The Ravens picked up their second win of the Heart schedule, beating the Wildcats 82-72.

Culver-Stockton scored 9 seconds into the game that was follow by a jumper from Preston Reynolds. The Wildcats used a pair of 3-pointers to remain in the lead despite Benedictine pulling even twice. LaRue's 3-pointer sparked the Ravens to a 14-2 run that allowed the Ravens to build their first double digit lead of the game, 21-10. 

The Wildcats kept the Ravens within arm's length, pulling back within 5 points midway through the half, only to have a 3-pointer from Jack Vander Woude push Benedictine's lead back to 10 points with just under 5 minutes left before the half. The two teams traded 3-pointers with the Wildcats hitting the lost shot of the half as time expired to send the game into halftime at 44-37 Benedictine.

Benedictine held Culver-Stockton to just one field goal over the first three minutes of the second half, which allowed the Ravens to push back ahead by 14 points. The Ravens pushed their advantage to as much as 14 3 times, leading by double figures through most of the second half before the Wildcats were able to close within 9 points inside the final 4 minutes of the game.

Vander Woude connected on a final 3 pointer and a pair of free throws inside the final 2 minutes to seal the win for Benedictine.

The Ravens finished with four in double figures, led by Vander Woude with 21. LaRue adde 19 while Reynolds and Deaglan Sullivan finished with 11 and 10 respectively.

Benedictine remains on the road for their next three, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a trip to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College.
