Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball loses in double-overtime

Women's Basketball lost a double-overtime heart-breaker Friday night.

The Ravens lost to the Northwestern Red Raiders, 83-76, at home.

The Ravens had a couple opportunities to come out with a win. In the final seconds of regulation, Riley Bruggeman drew an offensive foul on a driving Raider with 2 seconds left, then she narrowly missed what would have been a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

In the first overtime, Bruggeman's 3-pointer with 36 seconds to play tied the game at 72-72. After the defense forced a Northwestern miss, Nicole Storck had a shot at a winner, but once again the ball wouldn't cooperate, bouncing off the rim to send the teams to a second overtime.

The Raiders hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the second overtime to take control of the game.

Kelli Storck had a team-high 15 points for the Ravens, plus 4 assists. Nicole Storck had 13 points and 8 rebounds, Oen Deters recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Bruggeman finished with 12 points and 8 boards.

Both the Ravens and Raiders torched the net in the opening quarter as the teams were tied 23-23 after 10 minutes of play. The Ravens shot 62.5% from the field and the Raiders 50% in the opening quarter.

Those percentages dropped a bit in the second quarter as the Ravens outscored Northwestern 11-9 to take a 34-32 lead into the halftime break. Kelli Storck led the charge with 13 points in the opening half.

The Ravens finished the game shooting 36.7% from the field, and knocked down just 11-24 from the free throw line. The Raiders shot 37.8% from the floor.

The Ravens (9-4) will get right back at it when they play at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 against No. 2 Dordt University.
