MARSHALL, Mo. – Benedictine used its best 3-point shooting game of the season on Thursday night to earn a 5-point road win over Missouri Valley College.
The Ravens hit a season-high 17 3-pointers at 65.4 percent as they earned an 87-82 win over the Vikings.
Missouri Valley scored the first basket of the game before Brycen LaRue connected on a 3-pointer to tie the game just over 90 seconds in. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Jack Vander Woude and LaRue erased the Vikings second lead and pushed Benedictine to an 8-point lead – a lead they never gave back.
By the midpoint of the half, Gino Corridori pushed the Ravens lead to 10 points on an old-fashioned 3-point play. Vander Woude hit his fourth 3-pointer just under seven minutes left into the first half to push Benedictine to its largest lead of the half at 16 before the Ravens took an 11-point lead into the halftime break.
The Ravens led wire to wire in the second half. The Vikings closed within 2 points twice only to have Ravens answer with scoring runs of 8-0 and 7-0.
Missouri Valley tried to come back in the final 90 seconds of the game but the Ravens were able to hold off that comeback attempt from the charity stripe, hitting 5 free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the win.
Vender Woude continued his strong stretch of games for the Ravens, scoring a game-high 24 points with all his scoring coming on 8 3-pointers. LaRue added 14 points while Deaglan Sullivan added 13.
Benedictine remains on the road for their next two games, traveling to Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game with William Penn University before a midweek match-up with (10) Baker on Feb. 19 in Baldwin City, Mo., at 7:30 p.m.
