OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Benedictine Men's Basketball continued a 3-game road swing on Saturday, taking on William Penn University.
Benedictine was able to pull away from William Penn in the second half en route to a 79-66 win.
William Penn held an early lead over Benedictine by as much as 4 points inside the first three minutes. Back-to-back layups from Preston Reynolds and a 3-pointer from Jack Vander Woude erased the Ravens early deficit and pushed Benedictine ahead by 4 points.
After playing to a tie at 11, Benedictine outscored William Penn 17-6 to pull ahead by 11 points on a layup from Drew Purdy. William Penn didn't go away, but the Ravens never gave back the lead despite two ties in the final 3:36 of the half. A 3-pointer from Harris Kisling and a layup from Haggan Hilgendorf broke the third tie of the half and gave Benedictine a 5-point halftime lead.
It didn't take long for the Ravens to extend their lead to double figures in the second half as they opened on a 10-1 run sparked by a pair of 3-pointers from Reynolds and Vander Woude.
William Penn closed with single digits three times in two minutes starting with just under 10 minutes left to play, but couldn't get any closer than 7 points as the Ravens were able to maintain a double-figure advantage over the final 6 minutes.
Vander Woude continued his hot streak offensively, scoring a game-high 21 points with 7 3-pointers. Brycen LaRue added 16 points while Reynolds finished with 13 points. The Ravens finished the game with 14 3-pointers, marking the fourth time in the last 5 games they hit double-digit 3-pointers.
The Ravens wrap up the road trip with a game on Wednesday in Baldwin City against (11) Baker University at 7:30 p.m. before returning to the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium on Feb. 22 for a 2 p.m. game with Grand View University.
