FREMONT, Neb. – No. 5 Benedictine Women's Lacrosse came up just short of tying the program's single-game scoring record on Wednesday against Midland University.
Benedictine earned a 30-2 win over Midland to remain unbeaten on the season. The Ravens single-game scoring record stands at 31 and was set last season in a 31-2 win over Missouri Valley College. The 30-goal effort from Wednesday matches the second-most goals scored in a single game with the 30 scored in a shutout over the University of St. Mary during the 2021 season.
It took the Ravens 44 seconds to score – matching the season's fastest goal, which happened on Saturday against Ottawa. Kaylen Moore scored the Ravens first goal of the game as the Ravens scored 4 straight before Midland was able to score their lone goal of the first half on a free-position shot.
Kiera Russell scored a goal off an assist from Alexa Hildenbrand with just over 2 minutes left in the first quarter to push the Ravens ahead by 10 goals and kick in the running clock.
Benedictine led 18-1 at the half and scored 7 goals during the third quarter and 5 in the fourth quarter en route to their 28-goal win.
Russell led the Ravens with 7 goals. Chanterra Allen added 6 goals, followed by Lile Chekas with 5, Moore with 2, and Regan Engle with 3. Margaux Gelbach, Hildenbrand, Makenna Hill, Emma Rushing, and Christen Michaelides all scored 1 goal each. Hildenbrand led the Ravens with 5 assists, followed by Allen with 4 and Moore with 2. Michaelides and Hill finished with 1 assist each.
Defensively, the Ravens forced the Warriors into 22 turnovers and finished with 18 caused turnovers. Ava Moore led the team with 3 caused turnovers, followed by Rushing and Russell with 2. Moore, Allen, Gelbach, Hildenbrand and Molly Owen added 1 caused turnover each.
Moore led the Ravens with 12 draw controls, followed by Russell with 6 and Hill with 4. Owen played the first half in goal, recording 1 save in the second quarter. Monica Klecan recorded a shutout in the third quarter by Margaret Ritson played the fourth quarter in goal.
The Ravens finished with a 51-4 advantage in shots and a total of 28 groundballs.
Benedictine returns home for a pair of games this weekend. They host St. Thomas (Fla.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Webber International (Fla.) on Sunday at Noon.
