DES MOINES, Iowa – Benedictine Men's Basketball used a season-high 3-point percentage as they snapped their losing streak.
The Ravens earned a 77-67 win over Grand View University snapping a 5-game winning streak for the Vikings while snapping their 7-game losing streak. The game was Benedictine's third straight on the road since Jan. 29 with all three games played in Iowa against Graceland, Mount Mercy, and the Vikings.
Benedictine used a 12-0 run in the first half that spanned roughly four minutes to pull ahead by 11 points, 34-23. Haggen Hilgendorf jump-started the run with back-to-back baskets and Jack Vander Woude capped it off with a 3-pointer.
Grand View battled back and held the Ravens to just three field goals over the final 5 minutes of the half to erase Benedictine's lead and take a 42-41 lead at the half.
The second half started with five lead changes before playing to a tie at 49 within the first five minutes of the half. The Ravens first 5 baskets of the second half came in the paint. Grand View took over the lead, pulling ahead by as much s 5 points before Benedictine used another run to take back over the game.
A 3-pointer from Harris Kisling, followed by a layup from Vander Woude tied the game for the second time in the half that sparked a 15-run that not only erased Grand View's lead but pushed Benedictine up by 10 with just over 7 minutes left in the game.
After the Vikings scored 6 straight to close the Ravens lead to 4 points, the Ravens held Grand View to just two more field goals over the final 4 minutes of the game as they pulled ahead for the 10-point win.
The Ravens finished with 11 of 19 from beyond the 3-point arc, led by Vander Wood's 5 3-pointers. Vander Woude finished with a game-high 21 points, followed by Hilgendorf with 11 points off the bench. Deaglan Sullivan added 10 to round out the Ravens top scorers.
Benedictine finished the game with a 29-10 advantage off the bench with a 36-30 advantage in points in the paint. The 11 3-pointers marked the most since their Jan. 18 game at Clarke (Iowa) and surpassed their previous season-high 3-point percentage of 50 percent set during their Nov. 20 game at Central Methodist.
The Ravens return home for two straight, hosting Park University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday before hosting Culver-Stockton College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
