Softball earns sweep against the Flames

Softball picked up a home sweep Saturday afternoon.

The (20) Ravens defeated the College of St. Mary Flames, 1-0, in the opener, and then completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in Game 2.

Game 1

Bailey Selvage earned a shutout win, coming out on top of a pitcher's duel against CSM's Shaylynn Campbell. Selvage struck out 6 batters, gave up 6 hits and walked 1 in the Ravens 1-0 victory.

The Ravens bats did a good job of getting on base against Campbell, picking up 7 hits and working 5 walks. However, the Ravens left 9 runners on base.

The lone Ravens run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda Waymire singled to lead off the inning, then advanced to third on a single by Alma Garcia. Riley Kennedy beat out a bunt and Waymire was able to scamper home when the Flames throw to first sailed wide.

Selvage (6-5) and the Ravens defense made Waymire's run stand up, closing out the shutout.

Game 2

The offense got started right away for the Ravens in the second game. The Ravens plated 3 runs in the first inning, 2 in the second and their final run in the third inning.

In the first, Chloe Strickland doubled in Ryan Cooper and then Strickland scored on a double by Alena Velilla. Waymire brought home Velilla with a single to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.

Megan Forsman led off the second with a double and scored on Riley Kennedy's double. A Strickland single brought home Kennedy as the Ravens lead increased to 5-0.

Waymire walked to start the bottom of the third and eventually scored on a wild pitch as the Ravens lead grew to 6-0.

The Flames answered in the top of the fourth, scoring 3 runs.

Lacey Foster started in the circle for the Ravens, going 3.1 innings and being charged with 3 runs. Lily SinghDhillon (6-1) came on in relief, picking up the win by giving up 1 run in the final 3.2 innings.

The Ravens (15-9) will play at Friends University Sunday, March 16 and then return home for a doubleheader against Mount Mercy University on Saturday, March 22 as they start Heart of America play.
