ST. LOUIS – Benedictine Men's Lacrosse bounced back from its first loss of the Heart schedule on Saturday night, earning a 15-9 win over Missouri Baptist University.
After trailing 7-6 at the half, the Ravens came out in the third quarter, scoring 6 straight to take over the lead and pull away from the Spartans for a 12-8 lead headed to the fourth quarter. They capped off the win with three unanswered as Mason Eberle scored twice before Malcom Castronova iced the game for the Ravens.
The two teams traded a pair of goals inside the first 7 minutes of the game. Mac Postel Jr. found the back of the net first for the Ravens and Joey Calabria scored next on an assist from Brayden Hope. Jonah Salem scored on an assist from Luke Reger to give the Ravens the lead headed into the second quarter.
The Spartans outscored the Ravens 5-3 in the second quarter forcing Benedictine into a change in goal over the final 8 minutes of the half.
The Ravens came out of the gate firing, scoring 6 straight in the third quarter on 12 shots. Meanwhile, the Spartans also finished the quarter with 12 shots – 7 on goal – that were turned away 6 times by John Paul Evans. Evans finished the game with 10 saves as he earned the win for the Ravens.
Calabria led the Ravens with a game-high 6 goals. Postel Jr. finished with 3, followed by Eberle with 2. Castronova and Salem were joined by Harry Milligan and Davis McMullen with 1 goal. Postel Jr. and Hope finished with 2 assists each. Reger was joined by Eberle, Jacob Meyer, Salem, and Jac Couri with 1 assist each.
Benedictine finished with 15 caused turnovers as Missouri Baptist committed 28 turnovers. Charley McGlinn, Aidan Nicholson, Milligan, and Gus Irving finished with 2 caused turnovers each. Nicholson rounded out the stat sheet with a team-high 6 ground balls.
Benedictine returns home on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game with Heart newcomer William Woods University.
