Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

(10) William Penn hands Men's Lacrosse a loss in regular-season home finale

Benedictine Men's Lacrosse pushed No. 10 William Penn University on Saturday afternoon on Legacy Field, but in the end, the Statesmen proved too much for the Ravens.

After holding William Penn to just one goal in the first quarter, the Ravens gave up 7 goals to the Statesmen in the second quarter, which sparked William Penn to a 17-5 win.

With the loss, Benedictine drops to 5-3 in the Heart, moving them to fourth place in the conference standings. They are currently tied with Missouri Baptist, but have the tie-breaker over the Spartans should the two teams finish tied in the final standings.

Saturday, the Statesmen put 7 shots on goal in the first quarter and outshot the Ravens 12-7. With all that, the Ravens limited the Statesmen to just one goal while CJ Besuzzi recorded 6 saves. While Benedictine was keeping the Statesmen offense in check, the Ravens couldn't get their offense going in the first quarter as they recorded 10 of their 26 turnovers in the period.

William Penn scored 6 straight to open the second quarter before Benedictine's first goal. The Ravens load goal of the first half came from Dom Irving on a quick transition that caught William Penn in the middle of a personnel change. By halftime, the Statesmen added two more goals to lead 9-2.

Benedictine finished the game with 39 shots, 21 of which were on goal, as William Penn goalie Connor Russell finished the game with 16 saves. Irving led the Ravens with 2 goals, followed by Luke Reger, Mason Eberle and Keegan Lindsay with 1 goal each. Mac Postel Jr. recorded the Ravens lone assist on Eberle's second-quarter goal.

Besuzzi finished with 19 saves in three quarters as he suffered the loss. John Paul Evans played the fourth quarter, recording 3 saves while allowing 5 goals. Aidan Nicholson finished with 3 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls while Jac Couri won 10 of 25 faceoffs.

The Ravens wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, traveling to Fremont, Neb., for a 6 p.m. game with Midland University.
