Game Recap: Softball |

(RV) Grand View outlasts (RV) Ravens Softball in doubleheader

Ravens Softball was swept by the top team in the Heart of America Conference on Saturday afternoon.

The (RV) Ravens lost Game 1, 5-1, and then fell 4-2 in the second game to the (RV) Grand View University Vikings. Grand View moves to 13-1 in Heart of America play.

Game 1

The first game was tight from the beginning but broke open in the final inning.

The game's first run came in the bottom of the third. Chloe Strickland doubled to lead off the inning, then Kaelyn Fisher singled with two outs to drive Strickland in and give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings answered with 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning to move in front, 2-1.

The Vikings added 3 more insurance runs in the top of the seventh. The Ravens put two on base in the bottom of the final frame, but Grand View closed out the 4-run win with a fly out to left field.

Lily SinghDhillon took the loss (10-5) for the Ravens, giving up 4 earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. She also struck out 5 batters. Lacey Foster earned the final 2 outs in the circle.

Strickland had two hits to lead the Ravens batters in Saturday's opener.

Game 2

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Renay Myers singled home Sam Bertoncino in the bottom of the fourth inning to level the score at 1-1.

Grand View grabbed the lead once again in the sixth inning. With two outs, the Vikings hit a ball into the left-center field gap that Ravens center fielder Ryan Cooper nearly made a diving catch on, but the ball trickled out of her glove and the runner from second scored with two outs to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

The Ravens answered immediately as Alma Garcia led off the bottom of the sixth then scored on a double by Megan Forsman to tie the game.

Grand View answered right back in the top of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to move in front, 4-2.

Rhiannon Martin reached to lead off the bottom of the seventh for the Ravens, but ultimately the Vikings closed out the win and the doubleheader sweep.

Bailey Selvage (10-8) gave up 3 earned runs in pitching a complete game. Strickland added two more hits in the second contest, but the Ravens left 10 runners on base.

The Ravens (24-16, 9-5 Heart) will get right back to action at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at home against Graceland University.
