Benedictine Baseball earned a series split on Saturday and Sunday as the won the back end of both doubleheaders against the Peru State College Bobcats.
Peru State opened with a 4-1 win on Saturday before Benedictine earned a 6-3 walk-off win in game 2. The Bobcats opened Sunday with a 3-0 shutout before the Ravens rallied for a 4-2 win to close out the series with a win in game 4.
Game 1: Peru State 4, Benedictine 1
Benedictine opened the series with a rough defensive day in the opener. They committed 5 errors, leading to 4 unearned runs as the Bobcats earned the win.
Lance Bolles suffered the loss on the hill. He finished with 5 strikeouts while giving up 8 hits.
JK Sparks went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, while Brice Martin added an RBI as the Ravens were held to just 5 hits over their own.
Game 2: Benedictine 6, Peru State 3
After they tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning, Benedictine got a 3-run home run from Dominic Ferrari in the bottom of the eighth to walk-off for the win in game 2.
Ferrari went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double to go with his home run. Sparks added a triple while Brylan Haas added a 2-run home run that tied the game in the fourth. Matthew Johnson added an RBI to round out the Ravens game at the plate.
Scott Matzke earned the start, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits over 5 innings for the no decision. Ryan Jackson took over the sixth and held the Bobcats scoreless over 3 innings to earn the win.
Game 3: Peru State 3, Benedictine 0
Peru State's Blake Denson limited the Ravens to just 2 hits at the plate en route to a complete-game win to open up play on Sunday.
Ferrari and Chase Robertson recorded Benedictine's two hits.
Avery Baber suffered the loss on the hill. He threw 3.2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs off 7 hits before Nolan Haas and Charlie Elsten held Peru State to just 2 hits over the remainder of the game.
Game 4: Benedictine 4, Peru State 2
After giving up 2 runs in the top of the first, Benedictine held Peru State scoreless the rest of the game, allowing the Ravens to get their bats going to rally for the win.
Nic Mozingo earned the win on the hill. He took over with 1 out in the first inning, holding the Bobcats to just 2 hits over 5.2 innings with 9 strikeouts. Jackson picked up his fourth save of the season, recording the final 3 outs of the game.
Benson Smith got the Ravens' rally started in the second inning, doubling in Johnson. Cooper Milroy followed that with a single that scored Haas, and then Martin put the Ravens on top with a single that scored Smith.
Milroy, Johnson, and Ferrari all went 2 for 3 at the plate, with Ferrari joining Smith with a double. Sparks added an RBI in the fourth inning to round out the Ravens series at the plate.
Benedictine will host a four-game series against Culver-Stockton College to close out the regular season after getting a bye over the Easter Holiday Break. The Ravens and the Wildcats will play the four-game series on April 25-26.
