Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball ends season with Senior Day celebration against Culver-Stockton

After splitting Friday's doubleheader of its home finale series with Culver-Stockton College to keep its season alive, Benedictine Baseball dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader to end the season.

Culver opened the series with a 3-1 win before Benedictine evened the series with a 10-4 win in game two on Friday. The Ravens dropped two tightly-contested games on Saturday, falling in game 3 1-0 and then 5-3 in the series finale.

Lance Bolles took the hill in the opener, throwing 5.2 innings before handing the ball to Ryan Jackson. Bolles suffered the loss, giving up 1 earned run off 5 hits with 4 strikeouts before Jackson finished off the game with a shutout over the final inning and a third.

Cooper Milroy recorded the only extra-base hit, a double that drove in the Raven lone run scored by Matthew Johnson.

In the second game of the series, the Ravens scored 2 in the bottom of the first and third innings and never looked back en route to the 6-run win.

Scott Matzke earned the win for the Ravens. He scattered 3 runs off 6 hits over 4 innings before Jackson picked up his sixth save of the season, allowing 1 run off 2 hits over 3 innings.

JK Sparks finished the game with a pair of triples and 2 RBI. Dominic Ferrari finished with a double and 2 RBI while Milroy added his second double and RBI. Brice Martin, Brylan Haas, Skyler Spech, and Benson Smith all finished with an RBI each.

In the first game on Saturday, Culver's Cole Parkhill threw a complete-game, 7 hit shutout to outduel Avery Baber and Nic Mozingo. Baber suffered the loss, giving up 1 run off 3 hits before Mozingo threw the final 3.2 innings with 6 strikeouts.

Johnson was the bright spot at the plate for the Ravens, going 2 for 3.

In the series finale, both teams' lineups were Senior-heavy as Benedictine celebrated its 15-member group.

Senior pitchers Charlie Elsten, Nathan Ogden, Nelson Klein, and Cole Voss threw the first 4.1 innings before Nick Bauer and Nolan Hass combined for the final 1.2 innings. Elsten suffered the loss, giving up 4 runs in his 1 inning.

Andrew Workman, Miles Homquist, and Matthew Gabriel recorded doubles in the series finale. Johnson and Oliver Ferris were credited with an RBI each.

Benedictine finishes off its season at 16-30 overall and 10-22 in the Heart – 3.5 games out of earning a spot in the Heart Championship Tournament.
