Softball advances at Heart Tournament with win over MNU in first-round elimination game

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After dropping an extra-innings game in the opener of the 2025 Heart Softball Tournament on Thursday, Benedictine Softball closed out day 1 with a win over MNU.

Benedictine kept its tournament run alive in a late-night game with the Pioneers, earning a 10-2 run-rule win.

The Ravens scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth, which was capped off by a triple from Alma Garcia to end the game early.

Rhiannon Martin went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Amanda Waymire added a double and 2 RBI, while Chloe Strickland joined Garcia with a triple. Stickland, Riley Kennedy and Garcia added an RBI each to wrap up the Ravens efforts at the plate.

Bailey Selvage earned the win inside the circle. She threw 5.1 innings with 5 strikeouts, scattering 2 runs off 8 hits before Lily SinghDhillon threw the final two-thirds of the sixth inning.

Baker earned the extra-inning win over Benedictine in the tournament's first game.

Kaeylyn Fisher broke up the no-hit bid of Baker starting pitcher Kira Baker to force extra innings before the Wildcats scored on an infield single in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

Selvage gave up a first-inning home run before settling in to hold the Wildcats scoreless over the next 4 innings. SinghDhillon suffered the loss, throwing 3.2 innings in relief. She allowed 1 run with 6 strikeouts.

The Ravens advance to the second day of the Heart Tournament, where they will take on Park University from Busse Field on the Mount Mercy campus at 7:30 p.m.
