Benedictine Volleyball hit the road for their first pair of Heart matches on Friday and Saturday.
(RV) MNU handed Benedictine its first loss of the Heart schedule on Friday, 3-0, before the Ravens rallied for a weekend split, beating Peru State College 3-1 on Saturday.
Friday night, the Ravens were limited to a team attack percentage of .087 with 29 kills. Barbara Terra led the attack with 8 kills, followed by Lucy Drexel and JoJo Vander Woude with 7 each. Wren VanCleave finished with 18 assists while Lauren Stanga added 7.
Defensively, the Ravens were led by Kelley DeMeulenaere with 22 digs, followed by Cate Milroy with 10. Rayleen Gladden finished with 2 block assists while Lainee Mustain and Drexel finished with 1 each.Â
Saturday, the Ravens bounced back from the sweep at the hand of the Pioneers with a 4-set win over the Bobcats.Â
After splitting the first two sets, Benedictine won a marathon third set 32-30 before wrapping up the win with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
The Ravens finished the match with a .179 attack percentage, hitting a match-high .273 in the clincher. They finished with 53 kills as a team.
Vander Woude led the attack with 17 kills, followed by Gladden with 10 and Drexel with 8. Van Cleave finished with 41 assists to anchor the attack.Â
Defensively, DeMeulenaere led the back line with 37 digs, followed by VanCleave with 17 and Mustain with 15. Vander Woude finished with 2 block assists while Van Cleave added one solo block.
Benedictine steps out of Heart play for a trip down Highway 73 to take on the University of St Mary on Tuesday. They return to the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium for a Heart match on Friday with (RV) Park University.
