Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball handles Park at home

Women's Basketball took care of Park University in their final regular season home game Wednesday evening.

The (RV) Ravens won, 79-63, to set up a showdown in Olathe on Saturday.

In the win, the Ravens set a new season high with 13 3-pointers made, getting things started in the opening quarter with four made from deep.

However, it was Park holding a 19-16 lead after 10 minutes of action as the Pirates were 9-of-15 from the floor in the first quarter.

Park held a 5-point lead at the midway point of the second quarter, but that's when the Ravens began to find their stride. A basket by Nicole Storck cut the deficit to 3 points, then Kyla Fitzgerald made it a 1-point game. Hattie Gros put the Ravens in front with another bucket and after a Park basket, Riley Bruggeman hit a 3-pointer to give the Ravens a 33-31 lead.

Fitzgerald added a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer, Kelli Storck sank two free throws, Nicole Storck scored inside and Bruggeman capped off the Ravens 20-6 run with a steal and a layup just before the halftime buzzer to give the Ravens a 44-35 lead at the break.

The Ravens extended their lead in the third quarter as their defense continued to give the Pirates problems. The Ravens forced 8 Park turnovers in the period, taking a 65-46 lead into the final frame.

The Ravens kept the Pirates from ever threatening in the fourth quarter, coasting to a 16-point win.

Leading the way was Bruggeman who finished with 27 points, 8 assists and 3 steals.

Fitzgerald and Nicole Storck also hit double digits as each scored 14 points, and Gros added 8 points. Nicole Storck had a team-high 10 rebounds and Oen Deters recorded 4 steals. The Ravens forced 21 Park turnovers which led to 13 fast-break points.

The Ravens (22-5, 18-1 Heart) now turn their attention to a 5:30 p.m. road game Saturday, Feb. 21 at No. 10 MidAmerica Nazarene University. The Pioneers will also enter the contest with a conference record of 18-1. MNU defeated the Ravens 80-77 in the teams' first meeting in November.
