OTTAWA – Benedictine Softball earned a road split on Wednesday against Ottawa University. The Braves earned a 3-2 win over the Ravens in the opener before the Ravens rallied for the split with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, the Braves scored in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie to earn the win. Bailey Selvage suffered the loss, giving up 2 earned runs off 5 hits with 4 strikeouts over 6.1 innings inside the circle.
At the plate, the Ravens finished with 8 hits, two for extra bases. Alena Velilla hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to tie the game before Rhiannon Martin doubled later in the inning to score Kaleigh Small.
In the second game, the Ravens took the lead in the top of the third on a 2 RBI double from Martin that scored Velilla and Ryan Cooper. Martin went 4 for 4 at the plate, adding a solo home run in the seventh while finishing with 4 RBI.
Lacey Foster earned the win inside the circle for the Ravens in relief of Lily SinghDhillon. SinghDhillon went 3.2 innings, allowing 1 run off 2 hits with 3 strikeouts before Foster finished off the final 3.1 innings. Foster allowed 1 earned run off 3 hits with 2 strikeouts to earn her second win of the season.
Benedictine remains on the road on Friday and Saturday at the TopGun Invitational in Shawnee. The Ravens take on York (Neb.) and Waldorf (Iowa) on Friday night, before returning to action on Saturday against Columbia (Mo.) and Hastings (Neb.).
