Women's Basketball knocked off the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in the Heart Championship Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday night.
The No. 2 seed Ravens picked up an 83-60 victory over the No. 7 Spartans in Atchison, earning a trip to the semifinals on Saturday.
Holding a 13-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Ravens fully took control in the opening moments of the final period.
Nicole Storck opened up the fourth quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers and then 2 free throws, her first points of the night, to push the Ravens lead to 21 points.
MBU never got closer than 14 points the remainder of the contest as the Ravens picked up the home win.
The Ravens started the game on the right foot, sparked by the hot shooting of
Makayla Baughman. The senior knocked down three 3-pointers in the first quarter and added a layup to finish the opening 10 minutes with 11 points. The Ravens held a 20-15 lead after the first period.
The Spartans scored the first bucket of the second quarter, but the Ravens rattled off an 11-0 run that lasted 5 minutes to take a 31-17 lead.
Riley Bruggeman kickstarted the run with back-to-back 3-pointers.
The Ravens held a 12-point advantage at halftime, 40-28, with nine 3-pointers in the first half. Ball movement was important as the Ravens assisted on 13 of 14 baskets in the opening 20 minutes. The Ravens finished the game with 18 assists.
The Spartans cut the Ravens lead in half in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but the Ravens answered with a 12-0 run to push their lead up to 52-34. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Ravens held a 55-42 lead after MBU chipped away at the lead. Storck's baskets helped the Ravens build their cushion back up to close out the win.
Bruggeman finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Baughman scored a career-high 14 points and added 4 rebounds, and
Kyla Fitzgerald had 13 points and 4 boards.
Oen Deters had 6 rebounds and 5 assists, and
Hattie Gros also grabbed 6 rebounds. Both
Nicole Storck and
Kelli Storck scored 8 points.
The (RV) Ravens (23-6) will take on the No. 3 seed Grand View Vikings at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 in Ralph Nolan Gym. The Ravens defeated Grand View 66-48 earlier this season.
