Women's Lacrosse picked up a win in their home opener Saturday morning in Atchison.
The (1) Ravens defeated the William Jewell Cardinals, 22-14.
The Ravens got off to a great start in the first quarter. After the Cardinals scored to cut the Ravens lead to 2-1 in the early moments, the Ravens scored 6-straight goals to close out the first quarter and take an 8-1 lead into the second.
William Jewell had an answer in the second quarter, though, going on a 5-1 run to cut the Ravens lead to 9-6. However, the Ravens answered that run with one of their own, closing out the first half on a 5-1 run to take a 14-7 lead into the break.
Lorelei Siegel,
Mackenna Hill and
Lile Chekas each scored 3 goals to lead the Ravens in the opening 30 minutes.
The Ravens extended their lead to 20-9 after three quarters of action, forcing a running clock to close out the third quarter and start the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals got back within 10 goals in the fourth, but it was too little too late as the Ravens won by 8.
Hill scored a game-high 5 goals and added an assist. Siegel finished with 4 goals and 3 assists,
Alexa Hildenbrand had 3 goals and 3 assists, Chekas closed out with 3 goals, and
Kaylen Moore had 2 goals, 4 assists and 15 draw controls.
Molly Owen made 6 saves in goal for the Ravens.
The win is the second of the year, along with the season-opening win at Quincy, over an NCAA Division II opponent.
Next up for the Ravens (3-0) is a road trip that will have them play at (RV) Georgetown (Ky.) March 7, at (2) University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) March 10, and at (RV) Marian University (Ind.) March 12.
