Top-ranked Benedictine Women's Lacrosse opened up Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a shutout over Ottawa University on Legacy Field.
Benedictine closed out Spring Break with its fourth win in the last week, beating the Braves 26-0.
The Ravens used a balance scoring effort in the win as 6 players scored at least 2 goals each.Â
It took the Ravens 30 seconds to find the back of the net as Kaylen Moore got the scoring started. By the end of the first quarter, the Ravens pushed its lead to 8-0 and it was Mackenna Hill, off an assist from Alexa Hildenbrand, and Moore scoring the first two goals of the second quarter to push the Ravens advantage to 10-0 and kick in the Mercy Rule and the running clock.
Benedictine finished the first half with a 15-0 lead and then added 6 goals in the third quarter and 5 goals in the fourth.
Lorelei Siegle continued her strong start to the season, opening up Heart play with 7 goals on 11 shots on goal. Hill was joined by Lile Chekas and Emma Rushing with 4 goals each followed by Moore with 3. Izzie Venarsky scored 2 while Kiera Russell and Hildenbrand added 1 goal each. Hildenbrand led the team with 5 assists, followed by Moore with 4. Hill finished with 2 assists while Russell and Rushing finished with 1 assist each.
Defensively, the Ravens finished with 19 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Kaylen Moore led the Ravens with 6 draw controls, but right on her heels was Hill and Ava Moore with 5 each. Russell, Chekas and Venarsky added 4 each. Siegel led the Ravens with 5 caused turnovers while Kaylen Moore added 3.
Molly Owen earned the win in goal, playing the first half before Morgan Wassenberg played the third quarter with 1 save and Monica Klecan closed out the game, playing the fourth quarter.
The Ravens remain at home on March 21, hosting No. 6 Keiser (Fla.) on Legacy Field at 1 p.m.
