No. 1 Benedictine Women's Lacrosse earned its third win over a fellow NAIA-ranked opponent on Saturday, beating No. 6 Keiser (Fla.) University 20-10 on Legacy Field.
The Ravens turned a 7-7 halftime draw into a 10-goal win scoring 6 straight to end the third quarter and start the fourth as they outscored the Seahawks 13-3 over the second half of the game.
After the Ravens jumped out to a 4-0 lead on goals from Kiera Russell, Kaylen Moore, Mackenna Hill and Lorelei Siegel, the Seahawks pulled back with in two goals twice – late in the first quarter and midway through the second – before scoring the last two goals of the half to send the game into halftime tied.
Keiser scored the first goal of the second half just over 3 minutes into the quarter. It took the Ravens just under a minute to pull even as Hill scored back-to-back goals to take the lead back for Benedictine.
The Ravens never looked back, outscoring the Seahawks 12-2 over the final 23:55 of the game.
After each team took 15 shots in the first half, Benedictine came out firing in the second half to finish the game with a 40-22 advantage while limiting the Seahawks to just a single shot in the fourth quarter.Â
Coming into the gamw, the Seahawks ranked third in the NAIA in caused turnovers, but it was the Ravens defense that finished with a 15-9 advantage. After committing 10 first-half turnovers, the Ravens finished the game with 15, turning the ball over just 5 more times over the second half.Â
Siegel led the Ravens with 8 points, scoring 6 goals with 2 assists. Russell finished with 8 points, scoring 4 goals with 2 assists while Alexa Hildenbrand finished with 6 points, added 2 goals to her team high 4 assists. Moore added four goals, followed by Hill with 3 goals and 1 assists while Izzy Venarsky added 1 goal.Â
Lile Chekas led the defensive effort with 3 caused turnovers as Russell, Ainsley Willingham, Victoria Majdan and Ava Moore finished with 2 caused turnovers each.
Kaylen Moore finished with13 draw controls as the Ravens finished with 19 as a team as Hill added 3.
Molly Owen earned the win in goal, recording 4 saves.
Benedictine returns to the road on Wednesday, traveling to Liberty, Mo., for the return game against William Jewell College at 5 p.m. In the first meeting on campus back on back on Feb. 28, Benedictine earned a 22-14 win over the Cardinals.
