LAMONI, Iowa – Benedictine Softball cruised to a sweep over Graceland University in their first road games of Heart play on Sunday.
The Ravens scored a total of 32 runs en route to wins of 18-9 and 14-2 as the picked up a pari of 5-inning wins over the Yellowjackets.
In the opener, the Ravens finished with 20 hits as the recorded 17 RBI. Alena Velilla went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles while Rhiannon Martin went 4 for 4 with 5 RBI, a home run and a double. Kaleigh Small added a double, home run and 4 RBI while Lauren Gaitley added 3 RBI to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.
Bailey Selvage earned the start inside the circle, but only threw the first 2 innings, giving up 1 run off 1 hit with 5 strikeouts before Lacey Foster and Lilee Keller finished off the run-rule shortened opener. Foster was credited with the win, throwing 2 innings in relief.
The Ravens belted out 16 more hits in game two, finishing with 7 extra-base hits. Velilla went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double and 3 RBI. Amanda Waymire added a 2 for 3 effort with a home run and 3 RBI while Ashley Rindom, Gaitley, Kaylee Norris and Ryan Cooper finished with a double each.
The Ravens will return to the road next weekend, traveling to Cedar Rapids and Dubuque, Iowa, on March 28 and 29 to take on Mount Mercy and Clarke in Heart doubleheaders.
