After falling in the first game of its Tuesday afternoon doubleheader against Grand View University in 11 innings, Benedictine Baseball rallied to take game 2 and earn the split with the Vikings.
Grand View scored in the top of the seventh to force game 1 into extra innings and then added the game-winning run in the 11th to win 7-6. Trailing 4-2 headed to the bottom of the fourth in game 2, Benedictine scored 4 runs and then held on for a 6-5 win to earn the split.
Lance Bolles earned the start in the opener, throwing 3.2 innings while giving up 4 earned runs off 8 hits with 2 strikeouts. Anthony Sanders threw the next 2.1 innings before Elijah Reeves threw the final 5 innings to suffer the loss.
Brylan Haas went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and a triple as the only Raven with an extra-base hit in the opener. JK Sparks went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while CJ Serrano recorded the remaining RBI.
In game 2, it was Serrano's glove that help preserve the win.
After Grand View scored to close Benedictine's lead to 1 run, Serrano took away an extra-base hit running into the outfield fence for the second out of the inning. Johnny Andrews induced a pop-up for the third out of the inning and earn the save.
The Ravens used 5 pitchers on the hill in game 2. Ben Bowman earned the start, holding Grand View scoreless over 2 innings. Nolan Haas went 2 innings, allowing 3 runs off 4 hits before Adam Fairbetter and Evan DeMint combined for an inning before Andrews threw the final 2 innings. DeMint was credited with the win, recording a strikeout in his one-third of an inning and was the pitcher of record when the Ravens took the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Brock Raterman hit a 2-run double in the fourth to complete the Ravens rally. Andrew Workman added a double and RBI while Liam Annand added a 2-run triple that got the rally started. Paddy Meara added a third double to round out the Ravens game at the plate.
Despite the Ravens and Vikings both playing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, Tuesday's doubleheader did not count towards their overall conference record.
Benedictine hits the road for just the second time this season on Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Baldwin City for a 4-game series with Baker University.
